It’s like “Where’s Waldo?” in the office this semester!  On any given day, someone will ask, “Where’s Jodi?   Where’s Clair?   Where’s Tara?  Where’s Grace?”  Speakers have been in numerous schools, and our facilitators are out in the community teaching our SpeakUp workshops.  After students have heard a young adult share their life story of living with a mental illness, they are able to attend SpeakUp workshops.  These workshops strive to give teens life skills to better understand and manage their mental health.  The workshops cover mental wellness, stress on the body, mindfulness, positive and negative coping skills, social media, depression/anxiety, active listening, and empathy.

Is your school on our list?  Currently, we are in The Steward School, Collegiate School, Atlee High, Goochland High, Open High School, and Millwood School.  Later this spring, we will be in Godwin High and St. Christopher’s School.  We are actively starting to plan for fall 2017.

In partnership with Communities in Schools, we are facilitating “Chat & Chew” with ten girls at Thomas Jefferson High School.  Each week we provide lunch, and talk with them regarding mental health, introducing mindfulness techniques, and providing a safe space for them to be themselves with no judgment.

Last year we had about 15 students participating in Mindful Monday.  This year we have 72 students on our roster.  Our last Mindful Monday for the spring will be Monday, March 13.  Even if you haven’t come before, we welcome you to join us.  Register at www.ckgfoundation.org/mindfulmondays/.   Mindful Monday will return in the fall, and we anticipate expanding the program to include specific sessions for middle and high school students.

If you have any questions or would like to bring our Minding Your Mind speaker and SpeakUp workshops to your school, contact  Jodi Beland, Program Director, at Jodi@ckgfoundation.org.

Save the date:  Sunday, April 2, 2:00 – 3:30 pm.  Spirited Art Day at CKG.  Details and registration info to be released soon.  Space will be limited.
