Angst: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety

The Cameron K. Gallagher Foundation invites you to special film screening of this documentary to open up a dialogue between local families, community leaders, and experts. The event will feature the 43 minute documentary followed by an informative panel discussion led by Grace Gallagher, Executive Director of the CKG Foundation and child psychologists.

Producers Scilla Andreen and Karin Gornick have one goal: to start a global conversation and raise awareness around anxiety. Through candid interviews, they utilize the power of film to tell the stories of many kids and teens who discuss their anxiety and its impacts on their lives and relationships, as well as how they’ve found solutions and hope.

While “Angst” documents the struggles some people have with anxiety, it also reveals their hope for the future. Noah, a teenager in the film, describes it this way: “Anxiety doesn’t define me. It’s not just a curse; it also gives me strength.”

Stop 3 on the Handlebars and Hops tour!

Week 3 of growing and we're at the incredible Three Notch'd; home of Biggie S'mores. Many don't know that rapper Biggie Smalls was actually asked by his label to shave his stache' before his first album dropped. Sadly we are left to wonder what could have been.

Stache' and cash should be on full tilt by day 21 of your facial hair journey. If you haven't raised over $500 by now, time to get on it! Get Mo Money, or Mo Problems. Swag this week is TBD, so just hold on your hat.

If you're not growing, you're donating. Lastly, M4K and Midnight will be handing out co-branded bottle owners to growers and fans while supplies last.

Message from the event host:

It's that time of year again! Dust off your cowbells, clappers, thundersticks or other favorite noisemakers and join us for the 13th Annual Fauquier Avenue Marathon Party - the biggest, rowdiest, most motivatingest party on the course. Come cheer on your friends as they run the Richmond 1/2 or full Marathon or just come by to have a good time. Either way you will be helping to support a great cause!

We were even written up in Richmond Magazine as one of the best neighborhood parties in RVA!

http://richmondmagazine.com/life-style/leisure/best-richmond-neighborhood-parties/

Once again we will be competing in the Sportsbackers Cheer Challenge and our winnings will go to Speak Up 5K - Cameron K Gallagher Memorial Foundation. The Fauquier Avenue Marathon Cheering Party has donated over $2,500 to worthy charities over the last 10 years. This year we are excited to once again benefit the Speak Up 5K - Cameron K Gallagher Memorial Foundation . Let's win the Cheer Challenge again to maximize our donation!

We will start early enough to cheer on the first runners of the 1/2 marathon (8:10ish) and stay to provide motivation to the very last runner of the full(2:30ish)! Come early or..
.... come late! Stay the whole time or just stop by!

We will provide some food, a keg, and other assorted cocktails. Bring party food or drinks to share if you feel so inclined. Of course, if you will be chasing a runner around the course just bring yourself. Also, you may want to bring a chair. Best of all, the DJ will be in full effect providing musical inspiration to the runners!

Bring yourself, your kids, your friends, your neighbors - just get there! Please pass this invite on to any of your friends who might want to come!

Shady Grove YMCA Community Forum: Benefits of Mindfulness

Teenagers face a host of pressures as they strive for independence and navigate an increasingly complex world. Similarly parents face anxiety as they try to maintain a positive relationship and hold boundaries with their teen while still allowing the teen room to grow and experience life. These dynamics can raise the stress levels within a family. Mindfulness can help! Join us as we learn about and experience mindful practices from two local experts, Clair Norman and Sherry Klauer, who will lead this community discussion on mindfulness in the context of family.

Clair is Director of Mindfulness Education with the Cameron K. Gallagher (CKG) Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to raising awareness, erasing stigmas associated with teenage anxiety and depression and to providing tools that help including mindfulness education and skill building. Sherry left the corporate world and made a career shift to mind/body well-being after her daughter was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2009. She coordinates all mindfulness and spiritual exploration programming at Chrysalis Institute.

Please reserve your free seat here.

If you're not growing, you're donating. Lastly, M4K and Final Gravity will be handing out co-branded Crowler Koozies to growers and fans while supplies last.
